Genuine vs OEM-Quality Spare Parts: What’s the Difference?

When you request a spare part, you will often hear three terms: genuine, OEM-quality and aftermarket. They are not interchangeable, and the right choice depends on the machine, the application and the budget.
Genuine parts
Genuine parts are produced or authorised by the original manufacturer (for example Cummins or Perkins) and carry the OEM number and branding. They offer guaranteed fit and are the default choice for critical, high-load components.
OEM-quality parts
OEM-quality parts are built to the same specification and tolerances as the original, often by the same tier suppliers, without the OEM branding. For many wear items they deliver equivalent performance at a lower cost.
How to choose
For engine internals and safety-critical components, most operators stay with genuine parts. For routine service and wear items, OEM-quality is usually the smart economic choice. When in doubt, tell us the machine and the application and we will recommend the right option.
